All right, this is for you Meg to add to your anti-"my life is perfect look at my pretty blog" collection. I had a bad night at work. Is it possible to love and hate your job at the same time? I love being a nurse. I love medicine. But what has happened to our society? When did we breed the attitude of "entitlement." Some nights we're never fast enough, never babying our whiny patients enough, never enough. I am a nurse. I am not a waitress, you are not in a hotel or a restaurant.
Sunday night was the first night with decent snow on the roads and we had 1 accident that sent 9 people to the hospital, and more than one of them lost their life. At the same time, I had a patient truly say to me, "It's not my fault the weather is sh***y and you all get 9 traumas, I should not have to wait!" Really? Is that where we are as humans? Now I am just frustrated and clearly know that that represents a small population but really, it's ridiculous.
Okay, I'm done venting. Like I said, I love my job and wouldn't trade it for anything but this has just been one of those nights that wears me down and it helps to write it out. Thanks for reading my rambling. I promise more positive posts will follow soon :)

Wow. I'm speechless. That is just unbelievable! I'm glad you were able to shake it off and keeping providing quality health care, even though it sounds like that person doesn't deserve it.
amen. people are ridiculous.
Steph, I am so sorry people can be so mean and rude! I bet the night was hard. I don't know how you deal with that. I would not want to be very nice to the people!! You are an awesome nurse (infact I wish you were here helping out with my sister)!! Keep up the hard work! Can't wait to see you!
I AM NOT YOUR WAITRESS....I'M NOT! I am so sick of people thinking they can just demand me around.. do you not think I know that you're in pain and am working on it? MAN! I am right there with you and feel your pain (pun intended). I love when you vent.. it gets my wheels turning too!
xoxoxo
Can't wait to see you this week! YAY!
I'm sorry. I feel the exact same way about my job. We are there to take care of the health of our patients, can they not be the slightest bit thankful for that? I love you Steph...you don't deserve that.
P.S. I can't wait to see you this weekend. You guys should come tailgate with us!!!
What! What! Shout out to the pessimists! Just kidding! I understand man, my job now we don't get it as much but when I used to wait on fat old people hand and foot, I wanted to kill many of them! Hey so lunch monday at one?
the nerve. people these days. I totally agree with you- our society is patheic. Like the lady read from that talk in church...doesn't even compare to Sodom and Gomorrah. I'm sorry- you are wonderful, I hope some of your patients realize that and appreciate your hard work. Nurses need more love:)
